No Time to Organise, No Space to Breathe
This project is an example of our SPACE Refresh service — redesigning home storage systems in Singapore so your space feels calmer and easier to maintain.
Household
A working professional who needed low-maintenance systems that fit her busy schedule and active lifestyle.
Priority
Reduce visual mess and create simple, functional systems so her home feels calmer and easier to live in.
Spaces
| Entryway
| Kitchen
| Spare Room Wardrobe
Constraint
Existing kitchen, wardrobe and entryway cabinets were fixed — solutions had to work within current layouts and dimensions.
Challenges
Small Kitchen with Limited Storage
The kitchen was compact, with most of its storage sitting in high upper cabinets that were hard to reach — and only one small drawer to work with at a more accessible level.
Deep Cabinets Forcing Vertical Stacking
55cm deep bottom cabinet encouraged items to be stacked and pushed to the back, making rear items nearly impossible to reach.
Catch-all Zones with Mixed Categories
Single cutlery drawer held everything from cutlery to cooking tools; under-sink cabinet mixed cleaning, laundry, gardening and toiletries in opaque boxes.
No Clear Zoning Strategy
Items stored wherever space was available rather than by use or frequency, reducing visibility and creating visual clutter.
What We Did
01.
Understand
Assessed how the homeowner used each space day to day, identifying pain points and daily friction caused by the current storage approach.
02.
Design
Developed a reorganisation strategy focused on clarity, visibility and accessibility.
03.
Execute
Implemented internal organising systems to create clear zones, improve visibility, make better use of vertical space, and design for easy maintenance suited to a busy lifestyle.
The Transformation
We redistributed storage functions across available spaces and introduced internal organisation to work within the home’s fixed layout.
- Relocated kitchen overflow to the spare room wardrobe, allowing the kitchen to focus exclusively on daily essentials
- Matched items to the right organisers — pull-out drawers for visibility, clear boxes for deep areas, and compartments for separation
- Created dedicated zones across spaces so every item has a logical home based on use and frequency
Entryway Cabinet
— Shoes, Finally Easy to Access
BEFORE
AFTER
What Wasn't Working
- Zones didn't make sense — kitchen towels, tissue, toilet paper and drinks occupied premium eye-level space
- No efficient use of vertical cabinet height
- Frequently worn shoes kept at bottom shelves, requiring bending down to access daily footwear
- Some shoes stored elsewhere due to lack of space
Our Solution
- Removed kitchen backstock and pantry items, reclaiming space exclusively for footwear
- Introduced a vertical shoe rack so frequently worn shoes are now at eye level — easy to see and select
- Consolidated all shoes in one place, eliminating the need to hunt across spaces
- No more bending down for daily shoes or digging through stacks to find a pair
Pantry
— Clear Zones for Daily Essentials
BEFORE
What Wasn't Working
- Pantry items scattered across five upper cabinets
- Daily-use items hard to locate and reach
- Bakeware occupying valuable kitchen cabinet space despite infrequent use
AFTER
Our Solution
- Relocated seldom-used bakeware to the spare room wardrobe, freeing up kitchen space for pantry essentials
- Moved daily-use items like coffee, tea and snacks into the deep bottom cabinet with pull-out drawers — everything now visible at a glance
- Regrouped pantry items into clear categories and assigned each upper cabinet a clear role
Deep Cabinet — Effortless Access
BEFORE
What Wasn't Working
- Deep cabinet (55cm deep, nearly 1 metre wide) encouraged vertical stacking
- Reaching anything at the back meant removing items one by one from the front
- Daily-use items mixed with seldom-used items like bakeware and hosting tableware
AFTER
Our Solution
- Seldom-used bakeware and hosting tableware relocated to the spare room wardrobe, freeing up prime kitchen space for everyday essentials
- Clear plastic drawers allow the client to see everything at a glance and pull out exactly what's needed without searching
- Pull-out drawers at the bottom shelf bring daily dishes and cookware within easy reach
- No more digging, unstacking or removing multiple items just to access one thing at the back
Undersink
— Clear Categories at a Glance
BEFORE
AFTER
What Wasn't Working
- Tall, deep corner cabinet with no internal shelving
- Items loosely piled inside with no organisation
- Opaque boxes pushed deep into corners, making contents invisible
- Difficult to see what's stored or access items without pulling everything out first
Our Solution
- Rubbish bags and small cleaning items now stored in plastic drawers — no more digging through loose piles
- Items grouped by category so the client knows exactly where to find cleaning supplies, laundry products, gardening tools or toiletries backstock
- Clear boxes make contents immediately visible at a glance, eliminating guesswork
- Deeper areas now accessible by pulling out one box at a time — no need to remove ten loose items just to reach what's at the back
Spare Wardrobe
— A Purposeful Support Space
BEFORE
AFTER
What Wasn't Working
- Wardrobe became a dumping ground for items without a home
- Things piled up with no system, forcing the client to dig to find anything
Our Solution
- The wardrobe now functions as a purposeful storeroom that supports the kitchen instead of absorbing overflow
- Bakeware and hosting tableware have a dedicated home here, freeing daily-use kitchen cabinets for everyday essentials
- Re-matched items with the right organisers — bins with front flap doors now hold bulkier bakeware so everything is visible when opened, instead of hiding smaller items at the bottom
BEFORE
AFTER
Cutlery Drawer → From Catch-All Chaos to Clear Order
BEFORE: Cutlery, utensils and tools piled together with no separation — constant rummaging required.
AFTER: Defined compartments give each item a dedicated place — everything visible at a glance.
BEFORE
AFTER
Everyday Dinnerware → All Within Easy Reach
BEFORE: Dishes stacked vertically — had to remove items in front to reach the ones at the back.
AFTER: Pull-out drawers make every dish visible and accessible.
BEFORE
AFTER
Wardrobe Drawers → Clear Categories, Zero Guesswork
BEFORE: Mixed categories loosely stored — difficult to find specific items quickly.
AFTER: Clear categorisation means the client knows exactly where everything is.
BEFORE
AFTER
Bags → Now Visible and Easy to Grab
BEFORE: Bags stacked in bins, hiding what’s at the bottom — hard to see options.
AFTER: Every bag now visible and easy to pull out in seconds.
