Planned from Day One, Designed to Last
This project was delivered through our SPACE Move-in Organise service — a professional move-in organising service in Singapore for homeowners setting up a new or newly renovated home.
Household
A young family with a pre-schooler and infant, and grandparents staying over regularly to help with childcare.
Priority
Set up functional systems from the start — avoiding unpacking chaos and creating zones that work for a three-generation household with very different needs.
Spaces
| Kitchen
| TV Cabinet
| Utilities Cabinet
| Wardrobes
| Bathroom Cabinets
Constraint
The built-in cabinets provided by the developer weren’t designed for practical storage — they have awkward depths, mostly shelving instead of drawers and wardrobes with compact drawers in all bedrooms
Challenges
When the Built-ins Don’t Quite Work
Developer-installed cabinetry looked generous but fell short on practical storage. Overly deep dry kitchen cabinets with just one column of three drawers, built-in wardrobes with only three shallow drawers each, and bathroom cabinets at a tight 12cm depth — there wasn’t much to work with.
Beautiful by Design, Challenging to Organise
A beautiful TV cabinet design created an unexpected storage puzzle. The two narrow shelving columns (30cm wide × 46cm deep) flanking the TV sat outside the range of most standard organisers. Bins, boxes and dividers either couldn’t reach the full depth or simply didn’t fit the width, requiring thorough research to find right-fit products.
One Home, Three Sets of Needs
A multi-generational household meant storage had to work for everyone — elderly-friendly for the grandparents, safe and reachable for young children, and practical for two busy parents managing work and family life.
Called In One Day Before the Move
With no runway for pre-planning, everything had to come together in real time — guiding the move, unpacking strategically and planning the storage within the first few days.
What We Did
01.
Guide the Move
Directed movers on box and furniture placement to set the foundation for organised unpacking.
02.
Prioritise Essential Spaces First
Unpacked and set up the kitchen and bedrooms immediately so the family had what they needed for the first night.
03.
Plan Right-Fit Storage Systems
Designed storage solutions based on the household’s real-life routines and the constraints of existing cabinetry.
04.
Organise with Intention
Sorted through everything and set up intuitive zones and accessible systems tailored to a three‑generation household — each space arranged to fit the family’s lifestyle, routines and focus on functionality and ease of access.
Pantry
— Deep Cabinets, Full Visibility
The Challenge
At 64cm deep and just 35cm wide, the pantry cabinet made accessibility the top priority. No single organising product could span the full depth without leaving items stranded at the back — a practical problem that needed a creative workaround.
Our Solution
- Two-box system per shelf: Larger translucent box at the back, smaller box in front — maximising depth while keeping everything visible and within reach.
- Zoned by household member: Kids' snacks on lower shelves for independent access; adult snacks, biscuits and dry goods at shoulder and eye level.
- Drinks stored strategically: Bulkier quantities kept in the larger shelf under the oven where the family stocks up regularly.
- Cooking pantry in wet kitchen: Meal prep ingredients stored near the cooking zone, not grouped with dry pantry items.
Wet Kitchen
— Everything Within Reach for Efficient Cooking
The Challenge
The wet kitchen was compact with limited easy-to-access storage. Vacuum robot’s water supply needs took up valuable bottom cabinet space, making deliberate planning essential.
Our Solution
- Cooking essentials within arm's reach: Three drawers under the stove organised by function — utensils/tools, cups, and food prep items.
- Vertical cookware storage: Frequently used pots and pans stored vertically in the bottom cabinet next to the stove for instant access.
- Cooking pantry next to cookware: Ingredients positioned right where they're needed during meal prep.
- Hot beverage station: Coffee and tea in the lowest shelf of the top cabinet, directly above the countertop water dispenser.
Three Wardrobes
— Right-Fit Storage Across Three Rooms
The Challenge
The couple’s clothes exceeded the master bedroom’s 3-door wardrobe capacity.
Husband’s dry cabinet for his camera gear sits inside the study wardrobe — keeping equipment safely out of his young son’s reach, but adding to an already tight space.
Kids’ wardrobe had to serve both a pre-schooler and an infant with different storage needs.
Our Solution
- Master bedroom wardrobe: Wife's wardrobe prioritised here; husband's clothes relocated to the study.
- Study wardrobe: Dry cabinet accommodated inside. Frequently worn clothes stored here; rarely worn items moved to guest room wardrobe.
- Kids' wardrobe: 2-sliding door wardrobe split by child — daughter's clothes accessible by opening just the right door, no sliding past son's side. Short drawers on daughter's side for filing small garments; hanging space and drawers with dividers on son's side.
- Across all 3 wardrobes: Additional plastic storage drawers carefully selected to fit each wardrobe's dimensions, placed strategically based on clothing type.
Utilities Cabinet
— Smart Storage Planning
The Challenge
Adjustable AA tracks offered flexibility but required thoughtful decisions on shelf heights and zoning for diverse household supplies, while minimising the need for organising products.
Our Solution
- Four dedicated zones: Household Utilities, Paper Products & Cleaning Back Stock, Car Grooming, and Kids' Outdoor Gear.
- Thoughtful shelf planning: Each zone was planned with both access and space efficiency in mind. Kids' items sit on lower shelves so their son can reach independently, while shelf heights elsewhere were adjusted to each zone's contents — fitting bulky items like toilet paper and tissue boxes perfectly so nothing gets buried.
- Buy less, organise better: Uniform items (rolls, boxes, wet wipes) stack naturally without dividers. Organising products introduced only where truly necessary, keeping the setup lean and cost-effective.
Bathroom Cabinets
— Making Shallow Depth Work
The Challenge
At just 12cm deep with no drawers, mirror cabinets in both bathrooms had to accommodate all toiletries — beauty, dental, skincare, etc.. Under-sink wasn’t practical for daily-use items. The real challenge: keeping many small items contained, accessible and secure within such a tight depth.
Our Solution
- Sorted before organising: Determined what truly needed to live in the cabinet, clearing out anything better stored elsewhere.
- Right-fit organiser hunt: Sourced boxes and holders sized for 12cm depth — chosen to prevent items from tipping or falling forward.
- Small items, contained: Boxes group loose items, keeping shallow shelves tidy and easy to scan.
- Everyday essentials upfront: Frequently used items positioned for effortless grab-and-go access during the morning rush.
What This Family Now Enjoys
No Unpacking Chaos
Strategic move-in guidance and phased unpacking meant the family had a functional kitchen and bedrooms from night one — no living out of boxes for weeks.
Systems Built for Real Life
Storage designed around a three-generation household — elderly-friendly, child-safe and intuitive for busy parents.
Maximised Imperfect Cabinetry
Right-fit planning turned awkward built-ins and custom carpentry into functional, accessible storage — no wasted space, no guesswork.
Long-Term Ease
Thoughtfully zoned spaces and accessible systems mean the family can maintain organisation easily, even with the demands of two young children and multi-generational living.
Client’s Feedback
What truly sets them apart is their deep understanding of everyday “workflow”—not just creating storage, but designing systems that are easy to maintain. They considered everything from how items are used, to how they are replenished, to ensuring the path of least resistance in keeping things organised.
We initially thought we were paying for a one-time setup, after which it would be up to us to maintain. Instead, what we gained is a natural, almost effortless rhythm to staying organised. “Clutter anxiety” is no longer part of our vocabulary.
